Djaleh Akbar

Djaleh joined the firm in October 1987. Since joining she has been principally
involved in commercial matters, including corporate work, finance and
taxation including litigation in the courts in Pakistan upto the High
Court. Her area of expertise include mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures,
general business law, corporate finance, anti trust matters, franchising
and intellectual property. Her practice emphasises corporate law but she
also has a wide experience in the intellectual property area mainly in
connection with trade marks, patents, copyrights and electronic commerce
work. Her experience covers all aspects of trade marks and copyrights
and unfair competition. She has given opinions on trade marks availability
and infringements, prepared and prosecuted trade mark applications, and
engaged in numerous opposition and cancellation proceedings and appeals.
In the areas of copyright she has counseled on copyright ability of subject
matter and has obtained copyright registrations for various categories
of work. She is enrolled as an advocate with the Sindh Bar Council and
is a member of the Pakistan Industrial and Intellectual Property Association
and the Asian Patent and Attorneys Association.

Khawja Mansoor
B.A.(Hons), M.A., LLB, Advocate
Khawja is a senior lawyer and has vast experience in the field of intellectual
property. In civil law he has specialised in the matters relating to Trade
Marks, Patents, Designs and Copyrights. In course of his more than twenty
years of practice in the High Courts as an intellectual property law specialist
he has successfully conducted highest number of intellectual property
cases more particularly suits for passing off and infringements of Trade
Marks, Patents, Designs and Copyrights and the interlocutory proceedings
therein. He has also experience in the cancellation of registrations for
the last three years he has been the Chairman of Pakistan Industrial and
Intellectual Property Rights Association (PIPRA) and member of Asian Patents
Attorneys Association. For the period 2000-2005 he is the elected member
of Sindh Bar Council, the highest representative body of the lawyers of
Sindh. In his last term during 1995-2000 besides a member Sindh Bar Council
he held the post of Vice Chairman during January 1999-2000.

Javed Safdar Tanwiri
B.Com, LLB, Advocate
Since joining the firm in 1979 Javed has maintained a special interest
in intellectual property matters, and over the years has been involved
in a wide range of litigations and commercial matters concerning trade
marks, designs, copyrights and electronic commerce law. He advises on
a wide range of commercial transactions involving IP rights. His experience
includes the preparation, processing and prosecution of applications,
oppositions, rectifications, appeal and suit pleadings and other actions
in the courts and at the Pakistan Trade Marks Office. He has appeared
before various courts in Pakistan upto the High Courts. He has also conducted
many proceedings before the Pakistan Trademarks Office and also before
the Pakistan Copyright Board. Apart from participating in many Intellectual
Property/Law conferences, workshops & seminars both locally and abroad
Javed has also made presentations on various topics concerning Intellectual
Property. In addition Javed has experience in the area of general corporate
representation. He was the Joint Secretary of Pakistan Industrial and
Intellectual Property Rights Association for six years and is now the
Senior Vice Chairman-II of that Association. He is also a member of the
Asian Patent Attorneys Association and has recently been nominated on
the Designs Committee of the National Group of APAA.

Seema Shahid Mansoor

Seema joined the firm in 1983. She specializes in the area of intellectual
property including trade mark and copyright laws. Seema is engaged in
the protection of intellectual property and the enforcement of intellectual
property rights. Her experience includes preparation, processing and prosecuting
of applications, oppositions, rectifications, infringements and other
related matters. She advises on trademark availability, infringement and
other related intellectual property matters and is engaged in opposition
and cancellation proceedings and litigations. Seema has also been actively
involved in corporate law including mergers, acquisitions, taxation and
other related matters. She has also been active in matters relating to
electronic commerce law such as domain name registration and resolving
domain name conflict in Pakistan. She has participated in litigation proceedings,
while assisting senior counsel in the courts of Pakistan upto the High
court in intellectual property and corporate matters. She is enrolled
as an advocate with the Sindh Bar Council and is a member of the Karachi
Bar Association, High Court Bar Association, Income Tax Bar Association,
The Pakistan Industrial & Intellectual Property Rights Association (PIPRA),

Anwer Ghani
B.Sc, Patent Attorney
Mr. Anwer Ghani is a science graduate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
from the University of Karachi. He joined this firm in 1969 and worked
closely with the senior partner of the firm. He is responsible for providing
patent and design laws services to our clients on a full range of patent
and design related matters. He enjoys considerable responsibility and
autonomy for handling patent/design procurement, advising clients regarding
Examination Reports, drafting of claims, general correspondence, assignments,
oppositions, infringement and attending the hearing before the Controller.

Ferzeen Bhadha

Ferzeen joined the firm in 1998 and has since been involved in corporate

up and operation of manufacturing facilities, banking and financing transactions,

Dilshad joined the firm in September 1998 and has since then primarily

Fizza Kazmi
Fizza graduated from the University of Sussex at Brighton in 1999. She
was then enrolled and undertook the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns
of Court School of Law in London and the Honorable Society of the Gray’s
Inn and was called to the Bar in November 2000. She joined Vellani & Vellani
in September 2000 and has since been involved primarily in corporate matters
including mergers, acquisitions and taxation matters and has also been
actively involved in matters relating to intellectual property. Her experience
includes preparation and processing of applications, oppositions, rectifications,
infringements and other related issues. She has assisted senior counsel

Julie Ismail
Julie joined the firm in mid-1996 and has since then been primarily involved

laws. She has also been engaged in matters relating to labour laws and
finance and taxation. Furthermore, she has participated in litigation

Aisha Ghazi
Aisha graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University
of London (SOAS) in 2002 and thereafter undertook the Bar Vocational Court
at BPP Law School London and the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn and
was called to the Bar in October 2003. She then proceeded to complete
the post graduate LLM degree from University College London, University
of London (UCL) in Corporate and Commercial Law in September 2004 and
thereafter worked in-house with a firm of solicitors in Middlesex, London
before returning to Pakistan and joining Vellani & Vellani in May 2005.
Since her return, Aisha has been involved in and had conduct of matters
including general corporate and commercial transactional work including
matters relating to finance and taxation, joint ventures, project financing,
projects involving the grant and exploitation of government concessions,
anti-trust, the setting up and operation of manufacturing facilities,
banking and financing transactions, privatisation deals, mergers, acquisitions,
foreign direct investment, incorporation of companies, public floatation
and tender offers for listed securities, patent and copyright related
work, general commercial and corporate litigation and certain arbitration
matters. Such work has been conducted in the field of petroleum, natural
gas, minerals, cement, steel, tobacco, edible oils, tea, shipping and
trade, banking and finance, telecom and civil aviation, and coal washing
and coal purification. She is enrolled as an advocate with the Sindh Bar
Council and is a member of the Karachi Bar Council, the Honourable Society

Hamood-ur-Rub Jaffry
Hamood-ur-Rub Jaffry who holds the degrees of LL. B; M.B.A. and B. Sc.,
joined the firm in 1995 and has been involved in matters relating to Intellectual
Property, particularly in connection with Patents, Designs and Plant variety.
This includes Research, Registrations, Assignments and Mergers, attending
hearings before the Controller of Patents and Registrar of Designs along
with the other related issues. He also has assisted the senior lawyers
and the partner of the firm in different legal matters of IP particularly
relating to the issues of existing law. He is also been assigned to attend
courts for the purpose of assisting senior counsels of the firm. Mr. Jaffry
is registered with the Sindh Bar Council since 2005. He is a member of

Samiya joined the firm in June 2001 and has since then been primarily
